Preservation Month 2026

The places that shape Arizona’s identity deserve to be celebrated – and protected.

This May, Preservation Month takes on added meaning as our nation approaches the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the 100th anniversary of Route 66. Across Arizona, we recognize the historic places that tell our shared story — from Indigenous cultural landscapes and rural communities to neighborhoods, parks, and midcentury landmarks that define the character of our state.

Preservation Month is an opportunity to highlight the people and places safeguarding Arizona’s heritage. These sites connect us to our past, strengthen community identity, and help ensure that future generations understand where we have been – and where we are going.

We invite Arizona preservation partners, local communities, and advocates to share how the places they protect inspire pride, support local economies, and bring people together. Tell the stories of Arizona’s historic sites and the role they play in our continuing journey toward a more inclusive and vibrant future.

Join preservationists statewide by sharing your Preservation Month activities, events, and success stories. Help showcase the diverse places that make Arizona unique.
