LOCAL GOVERNMENTS
In 1980, Congress established a framework for local preservation programs through an amendment to the National Historic Preservation Act. This program recognizes political subdivisions of Arizona, such as cities and counties, which may apply to the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) to become Certified Local Governments (CLGs). Once certified, these entities are eligible for specialized assistance and funds for developing their own local preservation programs. Click here for more information and the latest list of CLGs.
